It’s not the first time I’ve found a bargain on GoToGate by the way!
For those of you who may not be familiar with Cagliari, it’s the city of Italian Island Sardinia 🇮🇹
What I really love about Cagliari is how quaint and authentic it is.
It may have been due to the fact I visited off-peak or maybe it’s like this all year around – I’m not so sure 🤔
I was staying around 40 minutes away from the city, I took the local bus in which cost around €1.60 each way which I thought was so cheap considering the length of trip. Since it’s pretty much on a coast line, there was scenic views to and from my accommodation which was fab!
What to do in Cagliari
There’s a lot on offer for different types of travellers. From the museums and shopping to eateries. From live music in the evenings to the beaches. If you fancy it, you could hire a car and road trip across the coast to get some stunning views over at Villasimius and beyond. I hadn’t hired a car on this trip since it was more of a work and relax trip combined, but I’d definitely recommend it since there’s so much scenery to see and experience.
The city itself is pretty small, a 3 or 4 night trip would suffice or 7 nights if you wanted to do a bit of city plus relaxing.
The Castello area is really quite divine, with winding streets and beautiful older architecture, you definitely feel like you are translated into a different time and era. You’ll end up strolling the streets and just finding yourself absorbed in the surroundings – it’s almost mystical and magical.
Poetto Beach is so close by to the city you wouldn’t believe it! The main strip gets super busy but as you head away from the city, you can find some sweet hidden spots that the locals tend to live by 😉As you pass Poetto Beach and head into the city, you’ll find Molentargius – Saline Regional Park which is filled with the most beautiful Pink Flamingos!
Each time I went, I didn’t find the right photo I wanted to take so ended up with none but it’s definitely worth visiting and capturing 😍 I’d never seen so many Pink Flamingos in their natural habitat. Amazing!
Roman Amphitheatre of Cagliari
A personal highlight for me was the Roman Amphitheatre. I’ve never been in one or around one and so to experience this was mind blowing. The Amphitheatre housed fights between men and animals, of gladiators and other specialised fighters recruited in and outside Sardinia. It was also noted as the seat of public executions. It could house up to 10,000 spectators. How insane is that? The place was closed for maintenance work but visitors were still able to go in and see some great views.
The rest of the city is filled with some amazing spots where you can get ariel views of the city and get lost exploring the streets.
That’s exactly one of the things I love to do – Get lost exploring the streets of new places and spaces – Do you?
Here’s some photos from the trip to inspire your visit to Cagliari in Sardinia 😍
Will you be heading out to Cagliar soon? What do you have planned?
Comment below I’d love to hear!
