Eco Retreat in Can Sala Spain
Since last year, I had been wanting to work with a company who offered a eco retreat sanctuary to relax and rejuvenate. A place in the middle of the country side that was eco friendly situated somewhere around Europe but not in the UK. I need me some sun.
I had plans to visit Girona in Spain, and after doing some research, I found a eco friendly retreat in a place called Can Sala.
Turns out, Can Sala is around 30 minutes away from Girona. So I could do a city trip plus a retreat. Win!
So I went ahead and reached out to the team to see if we can work together in some way.
I really wanted something off beat, something quirky and zen.
And boy oh boy did this place tick all the boxes ?
Getting there by public transit
Ryanair offer flights from Manchester direct to Girona. I fly with these guys pretty frequently (yes Ryanair, if you’re reading, hook a sister up ?) I got return flights for £54 GBP – Bargain!
From Girona Airport, you can get the local bus one way into Girona Central which cost €2.75. It was around a 30 minute ride. On from there, you can get a one way ticket to St Esteve de Llemena – Let them know you need to stop off at Granollers De Rocacorba which is where Can Sala is and it’s a 5 minute or so walk from the bus stop to the house.
Staying at Can Sala
I’m going to dive right in and talk about FOOD. Oh my goodness. So one of the reasons why I wanted to work with this place is that they are super eco friendly but also they serve up organic produce in their meals which is vegetarian / vegan. I was looking forward to having a bit of a detox from sugar etc. They cook up dishes based on which fruit and veg is available, season dependent. The produce is grown right next to the estate and so it’s so fresh and tasty.
Seriously guys, I haven’t had such great food other than my own kitchen ?
I ordered dinner for all 3 nights after falling in love with it the night I got there.
This was just the first night ?
The estate or house is AMAZING.
The house was originally built in the 12th Century and is surrounded by incredible mountain views, fields and forests. I repeat…12th Century!
The house is now part of the inventory of the Architectonical Cultural Heritage of Catalonia and is recorded in the register of Cultural Goods of National Interest and is classified as a historical monument. You can see and feel the authenticity when you are there. The house itself is made from stone, makes great for the super warm days they have out there! You can see how much effort has gone into trying to preserve the building as much as possible.
It’s an amazing place to escape to from the city, if you are spending some time out there, or even a trip away from where you may live. It’s a really great location to rejuvenate and have a detox from everyday scenarios, re align with yourself, your health and mental wellbeing.
You can find out more information on the types of rooms they offer and pricing information here on the website.
Here are some photos from the stay there…
Thanks so much to Can Sala for the complimentary stay – I loved every second of it and will be back ?
