Alice Springs was incredible when I was there. The heat was so intense, I loved it! It’s not for the faint hearted though so I would recommend you try stay hydrated if you plan to arrive in the warmer months.
Alice Springs is surrounded by desert, it’s absolutely incredible and beautiful to be around red sand. Alice Springs was the home of the Arrernte Aboriginal people for thousands of years prior to, yep you guessed it, western civilisation arriving and fucking things up for them.
The Arrernte have established a number of conservation areas around Alice Springs.
The influence can be noticed what with the number of art galleries and centres which offer traditional and contemporary indigenous art displays – it’s just a shame there’s so many issues with how the people have been treated through the years and still to this day.
There’s heaps of things to do around the region depending on your interests – I found one of my favourite bar’s there infact!
Alice Springs is known primarily for Uluru / Ayres Rock but there’s other cool stuff you can do around the region like Outback Quad Biking, Hot Air Balloon Riding (which I did!) Camel Riding, and a whole bunch of other activities and fun stuff.
I would highly recommend on giving yourself a few days in this region as it’s so different to other parts of Australia you may visit on your journey across this part of the globe.
It’s really peaceful and a contrast to the city life which makes it that much more beautiful.
I really wanted to go for the camping option but I ended up doing the day trip which was also awesome. The views en-route to Uluru are insane
We stopped off at Kata Tjuta / The Olgas en-route – Amazing how big these natural formations are.
Ayres Rock was stunning when we started approaching it ?
By sunset, Uluru looks even more beautiful the way the light hits it. It’s so zen and magical…
I also did a hot air balloon ride during my stay at Alice Springs. I would totally recommend this – I headed on to the sunrise one and the views were mind blowing especially seeing wild kangaroos hopping their way over the plains.
